Sixth Formers Enter National Poetry Competition

Sixth formers with their entries for the prestigious Tower Poetry Competition

Several Bridgnorth Endowed School Sixth Form students have submitted their entries for the prestigious Tower Poetry Competition, which runs every year for 16 to 18-year olds in the UK.

They were challenged to write a poem of no more than 48 lines on this year’s ‘Underwater’ theme for, not only a lucrative cash prize, but the kudos of being invited to Oxford University’s Christ Church College, if they make the final selection.

Tower Poetry started in 2000 when a generous bequest of £5m was made to Christ Church by the late poet, Christopher Tower, to encourage young people in education to appreciate and write their own poetry.

Now in its eighteenth year, the competition will be judged by a panel of highly-esteemed academics and poetry experts, and winners will be announced on Friday 29th March.

Mr Butler, Head of English, comments: “Our students have put substantial effort into writing and drafting their verses, and we wish them all the best of luck.”
