Sixth Form Awards Event

Left to Right: James Wilson (A.E. Swann Mathematics Prize), Amy Clowes (Michael Ridley Award), Faith McKie (Governors’ Prize for Geography) and Will Manfield (JWC Bowers Prize for Design)

Prizes and exam certificates were awarded to last year’s Year 13 students at a ceremony held in school just before the Christmas holidays.

Students were presented with their A Level and BTEC certificates, and some received endowment prizes in recognition of their outstanding performance or commitment to a subject or the school.

The endowment prizes originate from bequests or donations by individuals who have had a special association with the school, including past supporters, governors, teachers and parents, and recipients are selected by Heads of Department.

James Wilson, who is now studying Geography at Aberystwyth, won this year’s A.E. Swann Mathematics Prize, an award established by a Senior Master and Head of Maths who worked at the school between the 1930s and the 1960s.

James received the award for always maintaining an enthusiastic and good-humoured attitude, supporting his fellow students and taking a conscientious approach by attending a large number of extra lessons to ensure his success.

The Michael Ridley Award went to Amy Clowes, who, at the end of Year 12, decided that biology was not for her, so took the brave step to swap to business. With a great deal of determination and dedication, Amy worked through the Year 12 course content during the summer holidays and, in Year 13, attended as many of the Year 12 lessons as she could. The hard work paid off and Amy went on to get a grade A.

Alongside her studies, Amy also applied herself to securing a top apprenticeship in Property and Land Surveying at Worcester-based DSB Construction Consultants Limited.

The event, which dates back many years, is a special time for former students, who are now at university, pursuing apprenticeships or at work, to come together with parents and staff to celebrate their achievements.
