For the Love of Reading

L-R: Holly, Emelia & Joshua each received a £10 book voucher for their reading efforts

According to research carried out by the National Literacy Trust, children and young people who enjoy reading are three times more likely to have better mental health than those who don’t.

We also know that a love of reading, not only enables them to flourish at school, but also positively impacts their future life chances.

That is why Bridgnorth Endowed is so passionate about making sure that reading for pleasure remains firmly on the agenda through the well-known Accelerated Reader programme.

Designed to foster independent reading, the scheme is as popular as ever at BES and we would like to congratulate the three students who topped the reading charts this autumn half term.

Emelia White, from 9VE, came first by reading just over 1.4 million words, next was Joshua Rees (8IN) with 722,370 words, and Holly Maynard (9VI) took third place with 626,995 words.

Head of English, Mr Butler, commented: “A massive well done to our top three readers who put in a great deal of effort and have shown a sterling commitment to their reading.”
