For excellent learning to take place, there needs to be a happy, harmonious environment and Bridgnorth Endowed School works hard to provide effective pastoral care to achieve this.
We take a holistic approach to our pupils’ development, helping them to attain, not only academic success, but also self-confidence and respect for others to become valued members of society.
Transition Process
Our concern for pupil wellbeing begins with the transition process. The move from primary to secondary education is a big step and we take a great deal of care to ensure that it is a smooth and enjoyable experience.
Tutor Group System
The tutor group system in combination with our four houses – Veritas, Scientia, Virtus and Invictus – brings pupils together and helps to create a strong sense of family that encourages them to fully support one another.
With weekly contact, form tutors really get to know the pupils, which gives them the chance to monitor welfare needs and address any issues, closely supported by the pastoral team.
RSHE Programme
To equip pupils with appropriate knowledge and understanding of the social and emotional issues affecting young people today, our curriculum includes a comprehensive RSHE (Relationships, Sex and Health Education) programme that runs throughout all school years.
The weekly sessions are designed to foster pupils' respect for themselves and others; promote equality and values difference; educate pupils about positive relationships; and help pupils understand how their actions can impact on their health, wellbeing and safety.
Extra Support
Central to the pastoral care plan, is the need to maintain all children in full time education and ensure they have access to a broad and varied curriculum. This is vital, not just for pupils and their families, but also the wider community.
With this in mind, the school offers extra support and runs a number of powerful interventions across three venues to help students in times of need.
Good Communication
The basis of our overall pastoral strategy is to promote good relationships between teachers, support staff, our pupils and parents, as well as building close partnerships with external agencies. This is achieved through an ‘open door’ policy and effective, regular communication.
