Bridgnorth Endowed School has a distinctive and positive ethos, which guides our work and approach to education.
We are committed to the success of each of our students and teach them to develop the academic and character skills that they will need in adult life.
We believe in providing an excellent education, enabling students to get into the best universities and secure the most sought-after apprenticeships.
Most importantly, we aim to encourage students to be successful and happy in a competitive world, and to build an exciting future for themselves.
To support our ethos, we have the following three aims:
- To develop confident, thoughtful and well-rounded young people who are polite, balanced and have respect for themselves and those around them. We feel that this is best achieved by having clearly defined and measurable high expectations for attendance, attitude and conduct that make no excuses based on students’ prior attainment and background.
- To teach our students to develop important learning dispositions, self-regulation strategies and metacognitive skills so that they become capable of assessing their own learning and can act as their own teacher. We feel that this is best achieved by providing challenging goals, excellent teaching and access to regular feedback through high quality assessment.
- To teach our students to develop deep understanding of important concepts. We use the SOLO taxonomy to present learning as a process of developing sufficient surface knowledge to then move on to deeper conceptual understanding.
Traditional values of discipline, courtesy and good manners never go out of fashion and they underpin our drive for academic success.
We require our students to attend, be on time, wear their uniform with pride and bring the correct equipment to school every day. Students are expected to be courteous to each other, members of staff, and to the wider public. We insist on very high standards of behaviour both inside and outside of school.
